About the project
This project explores the California beef industry’s impact on freshwater resources. As the state became a global leader in beef production due to diverse geography and climate changes, increased consumption has put immense pressure on water supplies.
The images capture the scale of feedlots, where cows are raised on a water-intensive diet, highlighting the environmental cost of sustaining the livestock. With up to 100,000 cows per feedlot requiring significant daily water intake, the images underscore the growing strain on California’s natural freshwater sources.
Beef! It’s what’s for dinner.
