About the project

Riverside Reflections traces the path of the Los Angeles River, examining the profound transformation it has undergone since its discovery in 1769. Once free-flowing, the river now follows a 51-mile-long fixed concrete channel, constructed after as series of devastating floods in the early 20th-century.

Each image captures the river’s journey through the evolving urban landscape, reflecting the intricate relationship between nature and the sprawling city that has risen around it.

The photographs reveal the impact of relentless development and urban growth of communities and industries, as the ultimate act of erasure of the river that the city was founded on.
