About the project

The Toll Of Black Gold illustrates some of California’s transformed landscapes shaped by the extraction and production facilities of the oil and natural gas industry. These images reveal the stark contrast between natural beauty and industrial encroachment, highlighting the impact on local ecosystems.

As water usage intensifies in these regions, the competition for dwindling resources becomes increasingly apparent. This visual narrative prompts reflection on the environmental costs of energy production and the urgent need for sustainable solutions in the face of resource depletion.
